PVC, vinyl and linoleum floors are easy to maintain, so they are sometimes overlooked. Gerstung Floor Systems offers the following advice to care for its vinyl floors:

Daily. Dust mop to remove loose soil and dirt.

Weekly. Use a mixture of water and detergent to scrub the floor. Cleaning products and equipment should be suitable for the type and size of floor.

Spot removal. For spots and stains, try mineral spirits, xylene or kerosene. Wash the floor thoroughly after using these products to prevent surface deterioration.

Mondo America, a floor manufacturer in Laval, Que., Canada, has similar recommends to care for its floors. For weekly cleaning, it says to use an auto scrubber that has soft nylon brushes or red pads, as abrasive brushes can scratch. It also recommends letting the cleaning solution stand for 10 to 15 minutes, picking up the solution with an auto scrubbing machine, and allowing the floor to dry. If using a mop, go over the floor with fresh water before letting it dry. If a white film is left, the rinsing procedure was not adequate.
