Daily. Dust mop to remove loose soil and dirt.

Weekly. Use a mixture of water and detergent to scrub the floor. Cleaning products and equipment should be suitable for the type and size of floor.

Spot removal. For spots and stains, try mineral spirits, xylene or kerosene. Wash the floor thoroughly after using these products to prevent surface deterioration.

Mondo America, a floor manufacturer in Laval, Que., Canada, has similar recommends to care for its floors. For weekly cleaning, it says to use an auto scrubber that has soft nylon brushes or red pads, as abrasive brushes can scratch. It also recommends letting the cleaning solution stand for 10 to 15 minutes, picking up the solution with an auto scrubbing machine, and allowing the floor to dry. If using a mop, go over the floor with fresh water before letting it dry. If a white film is left, the rinsing procedure was not adequate.

The Cooper Aerobics Center offers a variety of services on its campus, including the Cooper Clinic, a fitness center, wellness programs and a 62-room guest lodge, along with the continuing education programs of the Institute for Aerobics Research. Although an independent massage therapy business had previously leased space in the facility, it was not fully utilizing the space and was not generating a good return on investment. All of this changed with the opening of The Spa, which has become a new profit center for the Cooper Aerobics Center.

Construction of the 3,200-square-foot Spa began in February 1998 with the conversion of two underutilized racquetball courts. The two-level facility has a Mediterranean-style design that guests find comforting. The elegant yet understated lobby has a cascading waterfall, raised ceiling and gothic columns. There is also a long serpentine wall that adds visual interest to the hallways where private suites for facials and massages are located. A pedicure and manicure salon, and a secluded area for relaxation are included as well. Architectural details such as indirect lighting, crown molding, weathered iron hardware and a rustic metal chandelier all add to this distinctive decor. The entrance to the fitness center was renovated in a compatible design at the same time.

The Spa has been a big hit with the 3,100 members of the Cooper Aerobics Center. They appreciate the comprehensive wellness services that are now available in a single location. The new facility complements the aerobics center’s other services and increases the amount of revenue generated. Members who are on the campus to exercise can now enjoy a sports massage after their workouts, and guests at the lodge can walk over for a manicure or pedicure.

The Spa has also increased the number of potential members who have visited the campus. These additional amenities and the 10 percent discount for spa services have boosted membership at the Cooper Fitness Center as well, further increasing profits.

Although there was some temporary inconvenience to members during construction, this was minimized by the scheduling of work during slower traffic periods. After seeing the real-world benefits of massage for stress reduction, all of the members and visitors to the Cooper Aerobics Center have enthusiastically welcomed The Spa as a world-class addition to the center. By providing these complementary services, managers have been able to increase customer satisfaction and their bottom line at the same time.

From the 4th to the 8th of August 1998, Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) hosted their 21st Beer Festival at London Olympia. This is the largest volunteer-run beer festival in the world. It is host to over 300 real-ales from 150 different British brewers and over 200 foreign beers.

The British love their beer, real beer, and Camra organise this festival to keep interest in real-ale going as the market is flooded with lager-beers from other countries, subsequently putting many British breweries in danger of closure. Whilst at the festival many beer-lovers were signing petitions to help stop closure of well-loved breweries.

Net Girl did her best to help Camra reach their target of selling their 3 millionth Great British Beer Festival pint. Over this festival alone, 250,000 pints were sold. Camra judges decided that the champion bitter was Coniston Bluebird Bitter, closely follwed by Mordue Radgie Gadgie and Moorhouse’s Black Cat.

To help soak up the beer, there were various places to get food, such as the Real Meat Sausage Company, Good Thai Dins and Potato Moon. Every taste was catered for. While you were sitting eating your food and drinking your pint, entertainment was put on in the form of live music. Also in this area of Olympia was a cider stall for those who felt like trying something a bit different.

If you listened to the predictions of the sixties, we should now be living in the “age of leisure.”

Computers would be doing all of the work — or so we were told. Newsweek, for example, predicted in a 1962 article that most of us would be working two hours a day, three days a week.

Hah. Such predictions now seem quaint, given that most of us are working harder than ever.

One of the problems has been technology itself. Rather than being tools of enrichment, technology and the era of the Internet have led to some people becoming enslaved to their jobs and their careers. Cellphones, e-mail, home computers — the ability to separate work from personal and family time has become much more difficult.

While it’s a great thing for a company to provide you with a laptop, it comes with a big downside. Sure, you can do some work late at night in the comfort of your own home, rather than having to stay around the office. But ask yourself this question: Are you ending up losing too much personal time as a result? Do you know the difference between how much technology lets you work and how much you should work?

The problem of technology encroaching upon our time is made worse because our modern day role models — “21-year-old dot-com millionaires” — are those who have managed to destroy whatever barriers may have existed between career and personal time. The entire buzz of the past few years seems to be that we need to become rich, and we can do so if we simply go at the idea of the Internet career with an overwhelming zeal.

I’ve come to believe that in order to ensure long-term survival in the digital world, you have to learn how to strike a balance between your career and your personal life.

I work hard to unplug myself, and to be honest, it is not easy what with the technology that surrounds me. But I know that it is important.

I had an Internet-enabled cellphone a few months ago, and one day, I decided I hated it. Why? Because I found myself reading my e-mail on a Saturday morning while at a bakery — and realized how absolutely stupid that was.

Last week, I read a bizarre letter-to-the-editor in a popular e-commerce magazine, in which one fellow was indicating that by carrying around 13 wireless devices, computers and personal digital assistants, he was far more in touch than another fellow who had only eight such devices.

While the current business culture may lead many to think that such connectivity makes people masters of the universe, my own opinion is different.

What losers!

I once had a friend who dreamed of being a stockbroker. As she’d talk, starry-eyed, about following stocks in the newspaper and doing her own buying and selling, I would think, I don’t know another woman who does this. Not one. Instead, most of us who are not entirely risk-averse do what seems like the smart thing: We invest in a high-performing mutual fund on the theory that the hotshot fund manager will do the stock-picking for us.

And it is smart to put your money in a mutual fund — much smarter than, say, stuffing it under your mattress or buying a bunch of low-interest CDs. But should your investigations stop after you’ve determined that the mutual fund you’re considering has had a few good years?

No, not even if you’re a real scaredycat when it comes to managing your money. Regardless of whether you keep your entire nest egg in one or more mutual funds, it can’t hurt to learn a thing or two about technology stocks, for starters. Mutual fund investors should be all the smarter about this sector in particular: Over time, it’s caused some fund managers a lot of trouble. Without calling their funds sector funds — mutual funds with heavy investments in a single category of stocks — several fund managers have invested one-third or more of their portfolios in volatile technology stocks. We know who really takes the risk — you. After all, it’s your money they’re gambling with.

Just ask Jeffrey Vinik, former manager of the mammoth Fidelity Magellan fund. As of two years ago, fully 25% of the fund was invested in technology stocks, and untold gallons of ink and kilowatts of electricity were consumed as the press — myself included — moaned about the risk involved in such a mix. Why? Vinik’s technology holdings were so large that he helped create the stock prices his fund benefited from, and investors who imitated his picks fattened up buy orders and caused the stock prices to rise even further. That was fine when a stock was climbing, but had Vinik wanted to unload a lot of his stocks he would have been trapped — any attempt to dump all the stock in one company would have crashed the stock’s price.

Vinik is no longer with Fidelity — at the time of his departure his fund was underperforming the S&P 500 for various reasons — but all the hooha over his stock picks illustrates an interesting point: It’s never a good idea to entrust your life’s savings to a fund manager whose investment philosophy doesn’t jibe with your own common sense.

If you notice that your mutual fund is heavily weighted toward one sector, such as technology, make sure the choices within that sector are diverse. During the Vinik craze one fund manager whose portfolio was 30% invested in technology stocks made an excellent observation: One semiconductor company might supply to telecommunications while another sells to PC makers and a third to the auto industry. You’re really in three industries with completely different dynamics and business cycles, even though they’re all tech.

There’s hardly an industry on the globe that hasn’t been touched by tech, and technology covers a wide span of subcategories — from aerospace components to scientific instruments and industrial machinery. A fund that looks overinvested in technology might actually have a more diverse portfolio than one that doesn’t. (Ask to see a list of the holdings when you buy the fund.)

How to pick tech stocks
If investigating the holdings of your mutual fund has made you feel empowered, you might like to try your hand at making a stock pick of your own — and technology stocks are a great place to start. Less brave investors should trust stocks whose performance has been strong year after year. Rather than assume this is the year the stock will take a hit, why not assume that such a company’s hefty market share will protect its stock price? One example is monolithic Microsoft, whose dominance is virtually unthreatened.

Still, it’s harder to see big growth from a $140 stock than from a $6 stock — for a 20% gain, the $140 stock would have to climb to $168 whereas the $6 issue needs only a $1.20 nudge. Small companies that offer products in niches not dominated by giants like Microsoft and IBM are good choices.

Computer scientists around the world celebrated that date in 1992 by debating whether a computer with the intelligence of HAL would ever come to exist. The general conclusion seemed to be, probably not. While research quietly continues into such exotic areas as “expert systems,” cognitive reasoning,” and neural networks,” much of the hype found with the early days of the electro-brains has all but disappeared. What remains is a plodding, careful and thoughtful march into the future.

It is probably best that this is so. From the perspective of an unbelieving public, billions of dollars of government and corporate research have resulted in not much more than a computer that can finally win a chess game. The world was captivated, to a degree, when in 1997 a computer with the ambiguous name of Deep Blue finally managed to beat chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov. A collective yawn followed, with most people convinced that while these devices might be able to play a good game of chess, they’d never be as powerful (or threatening) as HAL.

Of course, humorist Dave Barry had a different perspective at the time, generally believing that any device with a computer chip is smarter than your average human. Upon hearing of Deep Blue’s victory, he wrote that “the supermarket computer is WAY more intelligent than humans, because it knows how to add, a skill that most humans have totally forgotten by the time they get to the Senior Prom.?

Tomorrow

Will computers ever truly think? Might we ever get to meet a real HAL 9000? The physicist Niehls Bohr once observed, perhaps with the ultimate in humility, that “prediction is very difficult, especially when it involves the future.” A statement that probably best fits the concept of artificial intelligence.

While scientists downplay the concept of a system like HAL, they do speak of the fact that the devices which will encompass our daily lives in the future will be quite smart.

Your stereo will contain massive degrees of computer intelligence. It will analyze what you do, and will learn that on Sunday mornings, you prefer soft classical music, while on Friday night you like to drag out those old Rolling Stones tunes. Your television will notice your propensity to watch MASH reruns every Tuesday night, and will offer to tape those shows for your digital archives. Your automobile, full of computer silicon, will remember the route you take to the grocery store, and will offer to automatically guide you there once it has remembered the route.

AI? No doubt intelligence will emerge in computer technology, but in ways and methods that are quite different from what we have learned with our early experiences with HAL.

“Open the Pod bay doors,” said astronaut Dave Bowman to HAL, the genius computer featured in the film classic, 2011: A Space Odyssey. “I’m sorry, Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that,” came the chilling response. In 1968, HAL re-affirmed our opinion that the computer of the future was to be untrustworthy and evil.

Many of us have grown up with the concept of “artificial intelligence” firmly implanted in our brains. HAL was but the culmination of much of the early hype surrounding this field of computer endeavor. We were led to believe that it was inevitable that one day, computers would be smarter than us!

When computers first entered public consciousness in the late 1950′s and early 1950′s, they were explained to the general public in the simplest of terms. Heralded as a marvelous new invention, news coverage focussed on the fact that computers were nothing less than an electronic brain. In fact, the first popular book about computers, released in 1959, was entitled Giant Brains, or Machines That Think. This comparison to human intelligence was rampant in the popular media of the time, with headlines that screamed of the potential : 100 ton brain at M.I.T.,Want to buy a brain?, or Whirlwind One: Speediest electro-brain.

Implicit at the time was the prediction that computers would one day be able to undertake that most basic of human capabilities – they would be able to think and interact on a level that met, and even exceeded, that of the human being. Such fancy was based on the explosion of research in the 1950s and 1960s into what quickly came to be known as AI. Massive expenditures, particularly by the U.S. military establishment, were devoted to these so-called thinking machines.

There was an intense focus on computers that could play chess and checkers, as if that epitomized the extent of human intelligence. We were reassured every time that a chess grandmaster humbled the computer, and set back these scientists who seemed to be intent at displacing us.

Yet even so, we remained worried about the future. Troublesome headlines (Will machines replace the human brain? left us with a sense of unease, that perhaps things might be going too far. All of our fears came true with the release of 2001 in 1968. HAL was truly an evil genius, a silicon-marvel that could not only talk, think, and act like a human, but which could commit the ultimate act of a twisted human mind, murder.

Today

Perhaps one of the most memorable scenes in 2001 occurs as Lary Bowman unplugs HAL’s memory modules, causing this silicon demi-god to lose his mind. Slowly, as the intelligence drains from HAL, he starts to pull bits of memory from his past. Finally, he manages to offer up his definitive statement of his birth. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois, on the 15th January 1996.

What exactly is HGH?

HGH (Human Growth Hormone) is the most prevalent hormone generated by the pituitary gland, which is situated in the core of the human brain. The human growth hormone is emitted by the pituitary gland and helps in an array of the human body’s health performance.

Here you may question why we would want additional HGH when our bodies are producing sufficient quantities of HGH? Why is replenishing HGH necessary?

Researchers say that HGH levels start taking at dive at age 30. As we age, our levels are constantly plummeting. Indeed, a number of authorities believe that up to 80% or more of our HGH amounts are lost over time.

What does this mean to you?

It is believed by many researchers that the dip in HGH levels is what precipitates a variety of health problems and diseases associated with aging in the modern world — including weight gain, reduced energy, loss of muscle, wrinkles, less mental alertness, compromised immune system, vision issues, etc.

In short, it is thought that there is an explicit correlation between lowering levels of HGH and growing evidence of aging. With the reduction of HGH levels, the more adverse signs of aging appear.

Hence, the thinking is that to significantly counter the aging cycle, you must raise your amount of growth hormone. If this hypothesis is right, then we may arrive to the conclusion that HGH is the key to bringing back lost youth

How can we effectively increase HGH levels?

Restoring or boosting your HGH levels can be accomplished by any one of three methods:
# human growth hormone injections
# human growth hormone oral sprays
# herbal supplements which increase your body’s HGH levels naturally

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method? Which of these methods work?

METHOD # 1: HGH Injections

Despite HGH injections possessing some flaws, information from some notable studies does affirm that HGH injections produce excellent results.

For injections, at the general rate of two or three times a day, synthetic HGH is injected into the body. One shot generally costs $25, so a daily dosage of HGH would run about $50-$75. And added to the bad news is that usage of recombinant (injectable) growth hormone must have a doctor’s consent, as the drug is dispensed by prescription only. Additionally, as a “classified disease” is not the case here, insurance will not reimburse for HGH injections. The significance of which is that you will be the responsible party for all the incurred expense!

In addition, as stated above, injections employ synthetic (artificially engineered) HGH. To put it simply, its unnatural. Whenever you put strange hormones into the body, side effects can occur.

As a matter of fact, the July 5, 1990 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine detailed a study which showed a number of patients receiving injections were hit with undesirable side effects.

Pros: Injectable HGH works well.

Cons: Injectable HGH is quite costly, painful, time-consuming, is dispensed by prescription only, and can have serious side effects.

METHOD # 2: HGH Oral Sprays

No proof has been provided to show that oral sprays are effective.

Synthetic HGH can be administered directly into the mouth via an oral spray. Nonetheless, much chronicled data appears to point to the total ineffectiveness of oral sprays.

Sprays are regarded as useless for the reason that growth hormone is a big, volatile molecule which is incapable of penetrating through membranes inside the mouth. In addition, administering the dose is almost impossible with a spray, though this is a smaller concern since the dosage provided in a spray is far under therapeutic amounts.

Moreover, sprays are full of likely harmful binder and filler additives that authorities consider not good things to get near at all.

Lastly, oral HGH sprays are known for their bad taste as they impart an objectionable aftertaste in the mouth.

Pros: None.

Cons: Oral HGH Sprays do not work, taste awful and may include binders and fillers that could be dangerous.

METHOD # 3: HGH Supplements (Herbal Supplements)

The effectiveness of HGH Supplements is a matter of continuing debate. Despite that, a number of recent studies have demonstrated that some HGH Supplements are productive, giving just about the same extent of benefits as expensive HGH injections are capable of.

With herbal HGH Supplements, a mixture of herbal tablet and capsule supplements are taken. Normally, the pills are ingested just before bedtime, as the pituitary gland works at its peak capacity during sleep.

Herbal HGH Supplements have no synthetic HGH, dissimilar to injections and sprays. Rather, the ingredients in herbal HGH Supplements are totally natural. It is thought that the appropriate blend of herbs can excite the pituitary gland, forcing it to create greater quantities of the body’s own growth hormone.

Just for this reason, some authorities consider HGH Supplements as much less likely to cause harm than injections and sprays. In preference to receiving, orally or by injection, a foreign matter into the body, HGH Supplements force our body to more vigorously generate its own growth hormones. This, in consequence, avoids the bothersome side effects that plague other kinds of HGH alternative.

Pros: A number of studies conducted in the recent past have concluded that many HGH Supplements work very well. Herbal HGH Supplements are a lot less expensive than oral sprays or injections, plus they have zero side effects. You don’t need a prescription to get herbal HGH supplements.

Cons: None.

How does this data affect us?

An evaluation of the information currently available regarding Human Growth Hormone indicates that herbal HGH Supplements are the most cost effective, safest, and most effective method of increasing or restoring natural HGH levels.
