Are you offered anecdotal stories instead of well-designed investigative research?

Is the proof of effectiveness primarily anecdotal? Anecdotes are isolated stories that may be interesting, but cannot be related to each other or to the treatment or product advertised. Quacks build trust with clever stories and in-house research describing how others were helped. They jump to the conclusion that further research is not necessary because what worked for one will work for millions. You read the advertisement about the product that will cure whatever ails you. Or, the name of the supplement implies you will have greater energy and vitality. You ask your doctor, and he has not heard about the new wonder pills your neighbor is trying to sell you for weight loss. What are you to believe? How do you recognize truth versus fiction? Open gifts at the end of the party. Determining the best time and approach to opening the gifts is often a challenge. The advantage of opening the gifts at the end of the party is that there is less time for the gifts to be broken or pieces to be lost. In addition, it is difficult for young children to appreciate all gifts equally.
